How to prepare a smartphone for sale?

It takes approx. 4 minutes to read this article

If we want to sell our previous phone after buying a new smartphone model, we must remember to prepare it properly. After all, we stored a lot of data in it for a long time, which should not fall into the wrong hands. So let’s check what to keep in mind before selling it.

Safe sale of a used smartphone – what should be kept in mind?

Wanting to sell a smartphone, we need to prepare it properly. A smartphone has a lot of amenities that users use on a daily basis (e.g. calendar, notepad). It should also be borne in mind that the smartphone has mail installed, which also contains a lot of confidential information. The smartphone, acting as a phone and a handheld computer, has a lot of data stored in its memory. A person who wants to sell the device must ensure that these do not fall into the wrong hands. Otherwise, our sensitive data, passwords or bank details could become the target of a cyber attack. Even when a new smartphone user has no intention of doing so, they have access to them.

Backing up to the cloud

The basis of preparing a smartphone for sale is to create a backup. With this option, we can preserve the data, text or multimedia files that are important to us and that we have accumulated over the years in the memory of our device. It is a good idea to make the backup on an ongoing basis, then we will not have to wait for a long time to make it after we have finished using a particular phone.

Transferring data to a new phone

It is worth planning to sell the phone only after we have already bought a new device. Then we will be able to transfer all the data important to us to it with peace of mind. Some models include an option that allows you to transfer content to a second phone. This is done through a Wi-Fi connection. However, if the old and new hardware are not compatible with each other, nothing is lost, as all data can be transferred thanks to a previously created backup, which is located in the cloud.

Restore factory settings

Once you have copied all the data that is important to you from your phone, it’s time to move on to the next step, which is to restore factory settings. This is an option that can be found very easily in the phone’s settings. With just a few clicks, you can restore the phone’s original settings, that is, the ones we found when we bought it. Whether you own an Android smartphone or an Apple brand, any model can be restored to factory settings. This option will give us peace of mind that after the sale, no one will be able to access our files or worse, our bank or social media accounts.

Thorough cleaning of the smartphone

The smartphone should be “cleaned” not only from the inside, but also from the outside. After all, a neat phone will look much better and more people will certainly be tempted to buy it. How to prepare the phone for sale? To begin with, it is worth removing the case and thoroughly cleaning the case from all kinds of dirt and dust. If the case is already damaged, you can throw it away. Next, you should take care of the screen. If there is a damaged film on it – it is better to remove it, because it can mislead the buyer, for example, suggest to him that the screen is damaged. We polish the whole device with a soft cloth and we are done. Now our old smartphone can be put up for sale.
